What are some of the factors that led to your decision to enter the seminary and discern the question of a vocation to the priesthood?
I was happy as a single professional in the computer software industry but I felt something was missing. I wanted to know to what vocation God was calling me. Weary of ad-hoc dating I had joined Catholic Match for purposeful dating. The more I got involved in parish ministries at St. Malachy in Burlington, however, the more I seriously discerned whether married or religious life was calling me.
Who are some of the people who influenced your decision to enter the seminary? What is it about them that assisted you?
I thought about being a priest as just one of the many possibilities when I was in high school but did not seriously consider it then. An aunt brought the subject up with me years later and I guess I never forgot that. In the 1990s and early 2000s I volunteered at the now closed Fernald State School chapel ministry which served its severely mentally and physically disabled residents. Fr. Bill Leonard, the chaplain, and Fr. Jim Chichetto were priests that I looked to when I volunteered there. More recently, my former pastor, Fr. John Capuci, really inspired me by his ministry and supported me in my decision to enter seminary.
What would you say is the role of prayer in the life of a seminarian and what effect does it have on one's ability to see God's call?
It is extremely important to have a prayer life. When I started to attend Mass daily, have regular confession, and read scripture and faith inspired books, I felt happier and could more clearly contemplate God's call.
What advice would you give to a man who thinking about his vocation and is considering that God may be calling him to be a priest?
Talk to someone, preferably a priest. Don't let it fester. Continue to pray about it.
What do you like most about being a seminarian?
The communal prayer with my seminarian brothers and the opportunity to study the rich Catholic faith.
What do you think is the greatest challenge facing a man who is considering the seminary?
Finding time to pray and tune out the constant interruptions of social media. He needs to be able to overcome the relativism of society.
What are some of your hobbies or pastimes? What are some of the things you like to do in your "free" time?
Attending Red Sox and Patriots games with my brothers. I am also fascinated by the weather and once considered meteorology as a career.
What do you think is the best way to encourage vocations to the priesthood in the Archdiocese of Boston?
Parish priests having conversations about what it is like to serve the Lord as a priest-the joys and the sorrows. Show that it can be a fulfilling life. Also, the Church must show it is seriously addressing the clergy abuse crisis.
