What are some of the factors that led to your decision to enter the seminary and discern the question of a vocation to the priesthood?

The movements of Divine Grace, the example of holy priests, and the desire to serve the Church led me to enter the seminary in order to someday serve the Archdiocese of Boston as a priest.

Who are some of the people who influenced your decision to enter the seminary? What is it about them that assisted you?

When I was a student at Boston College, I used to regularly attend Sunday Mass at St. John’s Seminary. The advice and council of the faculty at St. John’s, as well as the Vocations Office, helped me decide to enter the Seminary.

What would you say is the role of prayer in the life of a seminarian and what effect does it have on one's ability to see God's call?

Prayer is fundamental in the life of the seminarian. The pattern of life of a seminarian is marked by daily Mass, common recitation of the Liturgy of the Hours, and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Through prayer, we come to know God’s love for us more intimately. By it, we are led to follow him more closely.

What advice would you give to a man who thinking about his vocation and is considering that God may be calling him to be a priest?

He should thank God that he has been led to consider this! A priestly vocation is a great gift which God gives to men in order to follow him more closely and minister to his people. In order for this vocation to flourish, spending time in prayer is vital. He should also get to know priests and seminarians in order understand more directly the life of a diocesan priest.

What do you like most about being a seminarian?

I love the strong sense of fraternity among seminarians. This is manifest in all types of activities, including: liturgy, singing, academics, and sports.

What do you think is the greatest challenge facing a man who is considering the seminary?

There are many challenges facing Catholic men today. But, none are too immense for God.

What are some of your hobbies or pastimes? What are some of the things you like to do in your "free" time?

I enjoy reading, distance running, tennis, golf, and singing and playing music. Providentially, there are other seminarians who enjoy doing these activities as well!

What do you think is the best way to encourage vocations to the priesthood in the Archdiocese of Boston?

The best way to encourage vocations is to have faithful parishes, schools, and campus ministries. Vocations are the result of faith being passed on in its fullness. By serving these ministries of the Archdiocese of Boston and contributing to the building up of faith in Christ, vocations will flourish.
