The Seminary
Our Seminaries
The Archdiocese of Boston is blessed with three distinct seminaries. Each, in its own way, serves the needs of the men who attend. Their formation programs are all designed to assist seminarians in their final discernment and preparation for the priesthood.
Saint John’s Seminary
Located in Brighton, Massachusetts, Saint John’s prepares Roman Catholic seminarians for ordination to the priesthood through programs of human, pastoral, spiritual, and academic formation. Currently, the Archdiocese of Boston has more than 35 men in formation at St. John’s Seminary, which houses both a Pre-Theology and Theology program. Learn More
Pope Saint John XXIII National Seminary
Located in Weston, Massachusetts, this Roman Catholic professional and graduate theological institution is dedicated uniquely to the preparation of seminarians aged 30-60+ who are responding to a call to priestly ministry. Making good use of the prior life experience and accomplishments of their mature seminarians, their program fosters their human, spiritual, academic, and pastoral formation. The Archdiocese of Boston is blessed to have several men in formation at Pope Saint John XXIII Seminary, which provides both Pre-Theology and Theology programs and boasts of 115 graduates from its robust program since its creation in 1964. Redemptoris Mater Archdiocesan
Missionary Seminary
Located in Brookline, Massachusetts, Redemptoris Mater prepares seminarians, who are part of the Neocatechumenal Way, for ordination to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Boston. Seminarians come both from the U.S. and other countries, and they all receive a diocesan-missionary formation in response to the call for a ‘new evangelization’ of the Church. Before ordination, all seminarians spend three years in the mission field, acquiring ‘the smell of the sheep’ and the spirit of the Good Shepherd who looks for the ‘lost sheep.
